Gannet Co. Inc. has launched over 100 mobile portals tied to its local broadcast and newspaper sites:
The sites—covering 84 daily newspapers, 19 local broadcast Web sites and USA Today—will feature news, sports, weather and other local information, and will be free to access (provided users have unlimited mobile Internet surfing plans in their contracts). The content will be produced by Gannet’s Information Centers, hubs that generate content used across different Gannet media outlets (from print and television to Internet and mobile).
The new sites can be accessed in one of three ways, according to a Gannet press release:
- directly by entering “m†before a Gannett site’s URL (example: http://m.tennessean.com)
- by using a unique market SMS short code keyword which will be used in print, online and broadcast promotion (example: text NASH to 59523)
- via links from the home pages of all Gannett newspaper and broadcast Web sites. A complete list of links is available at www.gannett.com
