Black Belt Productivity has a good chapter by chapter overview of the GTDÂ (Getting Things Done) system. Â In their words:
The first project that Jason and I felt that we wanted to do was to write a chapter-by-chapter primer for Getting Things Done. I re-read the book and wrote the GTD Primer series as my first foray into Blogging. I think that it is a good summary of GTD for those that have not read the book (which you really need to do), or those who need a refresher in some of the concepts presented in it.

Compulsive Hoarding is a real psychological condition, and like everything else, it’s gone digital. From Wired:
“Jim” is an infohoarder like few others. In the last four years, this 37-year-old Brooklyn native has downloaded and burned every piece of broadcast and print media that’s been digitized. Or so it seems. His apartment is filled with DVDs and CDs packed with bootleg anime, comic books, books, e-books, television programs, movies and, of course, music. He’s a completionist who must have every episode, every issue, every track.
Even if you’re not an obsessive [...]

It’s true…Firefox is getting more bloated with each release. Wired takes a brief look at some alternatives. For Windows, Maxthon (which uses the IE engine) and Opera are both ok choices. Personally, I’ll stick with Firefox for now.

Jott lets you dial a toll free number and dictate a message. The message is then transcribed, and the text and audio are emailed to you, or even to someone else from your contacts list. It’s a great concept, and it’s currently in free public beta. Read a review from the Black Belt Productivity blog.

Google unveils universal search. From the AP:
In its latest technological leap, online search leader Google Inc. (GOOG) will begin showing videos on its main results page Wednesday along with photos, books and other content previously separated into different categories.
Under a new “universal search” approach that Google began rolling out Wednesday afternoon, some requests will produce more than just a series of links and snippets pointing to other Web sites.
Is this new and improved Google, or just more cluttered search results?

Can you nicely equip a kitchen for under $300? No problem, according to the New York Times. In fact, $200 “can equip a basic kitchen that will be adequate for just about any task.” I’m impressed — and in desperate need of overhauling my own kitchen.

A few workplaces are adopting mid-day naps as a way to boost employee productivity:
Because of the costs associated with energy lulls that many 9-to-5ers experience in the afternoon, some employers are embracing the idea Workman is testing: letting workers nap at work. An article in the January issue of the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine says fatigued workers cost employers $136.4 billion each year in health-related “LPT,” or lost productive time.
I could go for a nap – anything for the company.

Bringo helps you avoid those brutal phone menus. From their site:
Tired of dialing 1-800 numbers and not being able to get through to a human who can help you?
BRINGO cuts through all of that so you don’t have to. That’s right, BRINGO has conquered phone trees.
Here’s how it works:
Find the company you’d like to call by category (credit cards, mortgages, loans, health care)
Enter your phone # (we will never disclose your phone number to anyone, not even your mother!).
Wait a few seconds while we navigate the phone tree.
When we call you back, pick up your phone and you’re [...]

Advice from the Unclutter blog:
Take all of your books to a book consignment shop or better yet donate them. Operation Paperback is a non-profit, grassroots program that collects used books and sends them to American troops deployed overseas. The National Book Foundation also has a list of book donation locations. Getting rid of your book clutter can also enlighten others.
My own basement is full of boxes and bookshelves of old books I’ll never read again. I just need to make time for some unclutterring.

This kid’s going places:
A 13-YEAR-OLD boy who lives with his gran has been exposed as one of Britain’s biggest internet conmen.
The boy earned more than £250,000 ($607,000) by posing as the boss of several multinational companies selling vacuum cleaners, stationery and office supplies.
Many goods weren’t sent, but he used the cash to revel in a luxury lifestyle way beyond his years: he wore designer suits, drank vintage champagne and travelled by chauffeur-driven limousine.
