The DoaminTools blog takes a look at some of the generic domain names owned by big companies. It’s an interesting list, and the author’s point that a lot of these companies are letting their domain properties languish is well made. It’s especially unfortunate that the awesome domain Kids.com, owned by CNET, has one of those tacky generic garbage pages that tries to look like a real portal but is full of sponsored links.
CNET has the biggest list of generic word domains in the DomainTools post:
Kids.com, Help.com, Computers.com, Download.com, Online.com, TV.com, Upload.com, News.com, Search.com, com.com, Builder.com, Gaming.com, Shopper.com, Marketplace.com, Updates.com, Store.com, Buying.com, Chat.com, Welcome.com, Browser.com, Shareware.com, Freeware.com, Auctions.com, Labs.com, Community.com, Silicon.com, Radio.com
And somewhat related: here’s a list of creative domain names used in national advertising. Sample:
1. 21st Century Insurance – 21st.com
2. A&E – SuitcaseOfCash.com
3. ABC – ABetterCommunity.com
4. ABC – BeUgly07.com
5. ABC – OnlyTheyKnow.com
